Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) for personnel of Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles (CAPFs and ARs) has been launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. Started in 2006, the scheme is funded by the National Defence Fund (NDF). PMSS Scholarship for CAPFs & AR is applicable only for students who are Dependents/Wards of Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles personnel. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must have a minimum of 60% marks in MEQ i.e. 10+2/Diploma/Graduation.
The online application for the Prime Minister’S Scholarship Scheme For Central Armed Police Forces And Assam Rifles (PMSS CAPF & AR) for the academic year 2024-25 has started from 1st July 2024. To apply for the scholarship, students must visit the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) and submit the application by October 31, 2024. The scholarship amount is Rs. 30,000 for boys and Rs. 36,000 for girls and are paid annually after selection. Once promoted to the next class/year, students can renew their scholarship every year until the completion of their course.
Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme For Central Armed Police Forces And Assam Rifles
PMSS (Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme) introduced to support students who pursue technical & professional education. Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme has been introduced in 2006-2007. Under this scheme, students get support financially. This scheme is especially made for the dependent wards & widows of CAPFs & AR (Central Armed Police Forces & Assam Rifles) personnel. Further, this scheme has extended its helping hand to dependent wards of States/UTs Police Personnel who are martyred during Terror/Naxal attacks from 2019-2020. The scholarship amount released by NDF (National Defense Fund) is administered by Prime Minister’s Office.

Note: The quota of 1000 each fixed for boys and girls are not interchangeable. (For ex: only 850 applications are received from girls, the remaining 150 will not be given to boys).

Eligibility Criteria
Here, we explain who can apply for this scholarship scheme. This scheme is especially made for the dependent wards & widows of CAPFs & AR and dependent wards of States/UTs Police Personnel as well as who are martyred during Terror/Naxal attacks. The eligibility criteria’s for CAPFs & AR are:
- Wards/widows of retired and serving CAPFs & AR Personnel. (below Officer Rank)
- Taken admission in 1st year degree courses.
- Who achieved minimum 60% marks in MEQ (Minimum Entry Qualification) i.e. 10+2/Diploma/Graduation or equivalent exam in case of new applicant.
- Student applying under renewal category, it is compulsory to pass with 50% marks each subsequent academic year.
- In cases of delay on the part of the candidate in submitting the application for renewal of scholarship, a grace period of one year will be given to those candidates.
Steps to Register for Prime Minister’s Scholarship for CAPFs & AR
Application must be filled by visiting official website http://www.scholarship.gov.in, only online applications will be considered. Candidates cannot apply offline i.e. through hard copy for this scholarship. Following are the steps to be followed to register for PMSS.
- Go to the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) 2.0.
- You must register before accessing the application form, so click on OTR Registration.
- Read the instructions, accept the terms & conditions, then click on the Continue button.
- Enter your mobile number, Aadhaar number and verify the OTP.
- Finally, hit on the Register button.
Process to fill Application
- Open the website https://scholarships.gov.in.
- Enter your application ID (OTR No.), and password, then click on login button.
- Enter your General Information, Academic Information, and other details, then click on Save and Continue button.
- In the Scheme Details, select Prime Minister’S Scholarship Scheme For Central Armed Police Forces And Assam Rifles.
- Upload the required documents (listed below).
- Cross check all the information, then click on the Final Submit button.
Renewal Application
For renewal of application follow these steps.
- Step 1: Visit National Scholarship Portal 2.0.
- Step 2: Under the applicant corner, click to submit the application for AY 2023-24 Renewal Application.
- Step 3: Login with Username, Password, and Captcha.
- Step 4: Click on Renew Application on the dashboard.
- Step 5: Proceed as per page requirement. Update Aadhaar details and current academic details.
- Step 6: Upload bonafide certificates and income certificates.
- Step 7: Click on Submit button.
Prime Minister’s Scholarship for CAPFs & AR Amount
- For girls rupees 36000/- annually (i.e., 3000/- per month will be paid only after selection).
- For boys rupees 30000/- annually (i.e. 2500/- per month will be paid only after selection).
Payment of Scholarship
The amount of scholarship under PMSS 2023-24 would be transferred directly through Public Finance Management System (PFMS) to the National Bank accounts of the selected applicants. This will be done under the DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).
